Messineo Art Projects and Wyman Contemporary are pleased to announce an exhibitions of new paintings by Artist Antonio Carreño. In his first solo exhibition in Chelsea, Mr. Carreño concentrates on using oil paint on canvas, breaking free from his use of added “mixed media” sand, sawdust and grounded paper. Antonio Carreño’s paintings are large, with a three-dimensional feeling; one can strongly experience a windowed background, the colored painted middle surface, and a top layer of symbols or icons. Mr. Carreño’s colored palette is strong and the colors seem divided into grids, with white grids in the furthermost background that take you even further into the painting, as though entering into a window of light.
Antonio Carreño is also represented in private and public collections throughout the United States and in the Dominican Republic.
Tue Fri 11-6, Sat 12-5 and by appointment.
